- In a centrifugal clutch, the clutch shoes are held inward by clutch springs.
- As the engine RPM rises, centrifugal force makes the shoes move outward and grip the clutch bell, transferring power to the wheel.
- The clutch spring resists this outward motion.
- The stiffer (higher RPM-rated) the spring, the more engine speed is required before the clutch engages.
- With a 1000 rpm spring, the clutch starts engaging roughly around 1000–1100 rpm.
- This means the scooter starts moving smoothly
- A 1200 rpm spring requires more engine revs (about 200 rpm higher) before the clutch engages.
